Appalachian Trail Corridor

About 550 miles of the Appalachian Trail — more than any other state — from Damascus to Harpers Ferry.

Virginia carries roughly a quarter of the entire Appalachian Trail. The corridor runs from the Tennessee line at Damascus, over the highlands of Mount Rogers, along the Triple Crown ridges near Roanoke, through the Shenandoah Valley, and across Shenandoah National Park to the West Virginia line. It is the single best state for a first section hike: graded tread, frequent shelters, and trail towns that actually welcome hikers.
